The Attorney General reiterates that she will never tolerate acts of corruption in the institution, while the Prosecution Directorate will request preventive detention for Aurelio Valdez Alcántara, who received the money in a controlled delivery. Santo Domingo.- The Attorney General’s Office arrested a prosecutor in the act of committing a crime who managed and received, in a controlled delivery, the sum of ten thousand dollars (US$10,000) from a person under investigation by the Public Ministry. The investigation of the case is directly led by the Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, who guaranteed the population, once again, that she will never tolerate acts of corruption in the institution.
By instructions of the Attorney General, who had previously requested the Court of Appeals of the National District to appoint an investigating judge, the Public Ministry arrested prosecutor Aurelio Valdez Alcántara on the night of Friday, March 27, 2026.
The accused prosecutor, assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office against Administrative Corruption (Pepca), was seized the sum of US$10,000 that he received in the controlled delivery authorized by a competent judge. In the coming hours, the General Directorate of Prosecution of the Public Ministry, headed by Deputy Attorney Wilson Camacho, will proceed to present the request for coercive measure, consisting of preventive detention, against the prosecutor who remains under arrest. Prosecutor Reynoso described the act as very serious, recalling the responsibility that members of the Public Ministry have to pursue corruption and all punishable acts. “I want to reiterate what I have maintained all my life and what I said on February 26, 2025, when assuming the Attorney General’s Office: we will never tolerate acts of corruption, no matter who does it.” “So, in this case, the prosecutors will act to bring the full weight of the law against the defendant, because we measure everyone with the same yardstick and we work to ensure that the courts produce exemplary sanctions in this and all other cases of corruption,” said Yeni Berenice Reynoso.
