Santiago.– The Public Ministry launched Operation Onco14, through which three former executives of the Cibaeño Board Against Cancer were arrested, accused of their alleged link to a structure that had embezzled millions of pesos from the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa) through fraudulent maneuvers.
According to the authorities, the operation was carried out jointly by the General Directorate of Prosecution of the Public Ministry, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), and the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office, as part of an investigation into irregularities that allegedly affected cancer patients and the public health system.
Among those detained are Héctor Antonio Lora Cruceta, former president of the Cibaeño Cancer Foundation and member of the board of directors of the Cibao Regional Oncological Institute (IORC); Luisa Yasiris Guzmán, president of the Tócate RD Foundation–Shelter House and wife of Lora Cruceta; and Dilcia Isabel Vargas Sánchez, former vice president and auditor of the foundation.

The authorities indicated that the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation process, focused on establishing criminal liability and determining the scope of the alleged acts of corruption that may have impacted resources intended for the care of cancer patients.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has not yet offered further details on the total amount of the alleged embezzlement, while the process of collecting evidence and taking the corresponding judicial measures continues.
