Monte Plata.– The executive director of the Airport Department (DA), Víctor Pichardo, received today the Torch of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, in an atmosphere of joy that highlighted the athletic pride of the Monte Plata province, the sports cradle of the Dominican Republic.

The sports torch, which began its journey in Sabana Grande de Boyá, led by provincial governor Rafael Javier Gomera, arrived at the main municipality, bringing together with its magic the main provincial and municipal authorities, athletes, business owners, and other stakeholders.

Pichardo highlighted the historical significance of the arrival of the torch for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 to the province of Monte Plata, emphasizing that this event reaffirms the contribution of this region to the development of national sports.

“We receive with great enthusiasm the Torch of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games 2026, which represents the union of all Central American and Caribbean athletes. In Monte Plata, the capital of Dominican sports, we welcome you,” indicated Pichardo.

During the tour carried out through the municipalities of Sabana Grande de Boyá, Monte Plata, and Bayaguana, Pichardo valued the support of local authorities, athletes, students, and citizens who participated in the reception of the sports flame, a symbol of integration, discipline, and sporting excellence.

The also president of the PRM in the province indicated that the presence of the torch in the demarcation constitutes a recognition of the sporting legacy of Monte Plata, considered nationwide as the Capital of Sport, due to the outstanding trajectory of athletes who have emerged from its communities.

“This torch represents the values that promote unity, effort, and the overcoming of the Dominican youth, and reaffirms the commitment to continue promoting sports as a tool for development,” he expressed.

During the day, Pichardo handed the torch to Primitivo Cadet in the municipality of Sabana Grande de Boyá, continuing the tour through the different municipalities of the province, where it was received by local authorities and representatives of various sectors.

The official recalled that Monte Plata has been the cradle of outstanding Dominican athletes, among them Major League Baseball player Elly De La Cruz, as well as Olympic medalists Gabriel Mercedes, Luguelín Santos, Luisito Pie, and Zacarías Bonnat, who have held the country’s name high in international competitions.

In addition to the provincial governor, the activity was attended by Senator Pedro Tineo; and Deputy Jhonn Contreras; as well as mayors Héctor Figari, of Monte Plata; Marcos Tavárez, of Sabana Grande de Boyá; and Frangel García, of Bayaguana.

The event also featured the presence of community leaders, representatives from the education sector, sports officials, and social organizations, who supported the celebration of the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
