Santiago.- Family members of Miguel Ángel Miranda Flete, 23 years old, reported that the Cibao Central regional director of the National Police in Santiago, General Juan Bautista Jiménez Reinoso, had urged them not to give statements to the press, after the death of the young man, which occurred after receiving a gunshot to the head during a police intervention in the La Ceibita sector, on December 25th.
According to a relative of the victim, the high-ranking officer told them not to speak to the media, alleging that “the press is only looking for money” with regrettable events like this, a recommendation they claim was reiterated during a meeting held with the general to discuss the case.
Family members expressed their outrage at these statements and reiterated their demand for justice, while demanding that the young man’s death not go unpunished.

They claim that Miguel Ángel was shot by a police officer, who is identified as directly responsible for the shot that later caused his death.
The event has generated concern and consternation among the residents of La Ceibita, who hope that the authorities will offer more details, deepen the investigations, and establish clear responsibilities to prevent the case from being forgotten.
Following the incident, the National Police reported that they had suspended from their duties and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry Second Lieutenant Vicente Encarnación Jersin, identified as the alleged person responsible for the shooting.
The officer was transferred under police custody, along with his service weapon, to the Internal Affairs Department of the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office, where he is being investigated to determine the circumstances in which the event that ended the life of Miguel Ángel Miranda Flete occurred.
