Police recapture in Santiago an inmate who escaped from Rafey prison while serving a 30-year sentence

Santiago de los Caballeros.– The National Police recaptured in Santiago a man who had been a fugitive since May 2025, after escaping from the Rafey Men’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center, where he was serving a 30-year prison sentence for aggravated homicide and robbery.

He is José Félix García Núñez, alias “Félix 30”, 51 years old, who was arrested by agents of the Division of Investigation of Crimes and Offenses Against the Person in compliance with an arrest warrant issued by the Second Chamber of the Penal Execution Court of the Judicial Department of Santiago.

According to the authorities, García Núñez had been a fugitive since May 8, 2025, the date on which he managed to escape from the penitentiary facility, according to the records of the General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC).

The judicial file states that the detainee was sentenced in 2015 to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment after being found guilty of aggravated homicide and robbery, a decision that was subsequently ratified by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Justice, leaving the sentence final.

Investigations also indicate that the recaptured individual has a criminal record for homicide and robbery, and was actively sought by authorities since the moment of his escape.

Following his arrest, he was handed over to the Coordination of the Fugitive Capture Department of the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal procedures.
