Police shoot woman who attacked an officer on Miami’s Dolphin Expressway

A woman was shot by police on Miami’s Dolphin Expressway after attacking an officer with a knife, in an incident that sparked a strong police mobilization in the area. The incident occurred around 5:30 in the morning, when drivers called 911 to report a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the SR-836 state highway, near Northwest 107th Avenue, putting other motorists at risk. A Florida Highway Patrol agent located the car stopped on the side of the road and approached to investigate. At that moment, the driver attacked him with a knife, causing injuries to his head, neck, and shoulder.

Faced with the aggression, the officer responded with his firearm and shot, wounding the woman. Both the officer and the suspect were taken to HCA Kendall Trauma hospital, where they received medical attention; authorities reported that their injuries are not life-threatening. Inside the vehicle was also a minor, who was unharmed and was placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families. Subsequently, the authorities reported that the woman had outstanding arrest warrants for charges related to child neglect, child abuse, and fleeing from the police.
