Santo Domingo.- Responding to a request from the Public Ministry, the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Santo Domingo Oeste ordered three months of preventive detention for a man and a woman accused of child abuse against a 10-year-old girl, in an incident recorded on January 28 in the Villa Linda sector of the Los Alcarrizos municipality.
Luz Dabel Jiménez Matos and Danneris Morillo Montero, stepmother and father of the victim, are being charged with acts of torture and barbarity, as well as violation of several articles of the Dominican Penal Code and Law 136-03, which creates the Code for the Protection System and the Fundamental Rights of Children and Adolescents.
Prosecutor Ana Yasmeiry Pujols, who is investigating the case, indicated in the indictment that the woman placed the girl’s right hand on a lit stove burner until she burned it, in claim of one hundred pesos that a classmate of the minor had lost.
She detailed that all this happened in the presence of the man who hit her with a stick on the leg to stop her from crying, and who later locked her in a room so that the neighbors would not hear her screams.

In the hearing, prosecutor José Polanco explained that the girl was taken to the Dr. Vinicio Calventi General Hospital by her biological mother in an emergency and then transferred to the Robert Read Cabral, where she was diagnosed with first and second-degree burns.
Judge Reyes Rodríguez ordered that the defendants Jiménez Matos and Morillo Montero serve their sentence in the Najayo Mujeres and Las Parras Correction and Rehabilitation Centers.
