Pretrial detention for man for theft of materials for construction of the Metro and Cable Car

Santo Domingo.- The Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Santo Domingo Oeste ordered three months of preventive detention, as a coercive measure, for a man accused of stealing materials destined for the construction of the Metro and Cable Car of Santo Domingo. San Esteban Ureña Almonte, who was assigned as security for the warehouse that stores various materials for the construction of the Metro and the Cable Car, located at the entrance of Los Alcarrizos, was arrested in the act with dozens of structural elements used for the transport works. Prosecutor Mariana Sosa indicates in the indictment that the defendant was arrested on Winston Churchill Avenue aboard a vehicle, Toyota brand, and that dozens of screws, nuts, metal washers and bearings were seized from the trunk, which were reported as missing by the warehouse administrator.

It details that after an intelligence operation, in coordination with the National Police, the prosecuting body determined that the now-accused was taking the steel objects to several metal companies located at kilometer 20 of the Duarte highway, Pedro Brand and several sectors of La Guáyiga.

The fiscal attorney Argenis Gutiérrez, representing the Public Ministry, during the hearing, indicated that the defendant provisionally violated articles 379, 383 and 386-3 of the Dominican Penal Code. Judge Reye Rodríguez ordered the defendant to comply with the coercive measure at the Las Parras Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR).
