The Essential Medicines and Central Logistics Support Program (PROMESE/CAL) reported that it has launched a work protocol to double the distribution of flu medications and other essential medicines in the People’s Pharmacy Network. This measure responds to the high incidence of flu viruses currently affecting the country, derived from the temperature changes typical of the time of year.
The institution indicated that the general warehouses have sufficient inventory to meet the national demand for flu medications for immediate care. This operational capacity is strengthened by a combined reserve of vitamin C and amoxicillin that exceeds 5.5 million units, which ensures an efficient and timely logistical response throughout the territory.
During the month of November, PROMESE/CAL conducted a comprehensive general inventory with the purpose of optimizing supply management and ensuring transparency in procurement. Once the physical validation of the inputs was completed, a staggered dispatch schedule began in December to all regions of the country, in order to normalize the replenishment frequency after the temporary logistical pause that this administrative process required.
Additionally, and with the aim of preventing shortages in the face of high citizen demand, the entity carried out a strategic purchasing process to cover health needs until the month of February. This acquisition included 80 types of essential medicines for an awarded amount of RD$ 73 million, 710 thousand, 621, integrating into the inventory some 230,000 additional units of flu remedies, acetaminophen, cod liver oil and ibuprofen, among other high-turnover products.
With these actions, PROMESE/CAL reaffirms its institutional commitment to guarantee equitable access to high-quality and affordable medicines, always ensuring social security and the well-being of all Dominican citizens.
