Studio Teatro Wendy Queliz presents “Puertas: The Inclusive Musical” With two unique performances on April 10th and 11th at the Hall of Fame of the Olympic Center of Santo Domingo, tickets on sale at ticketmax.orgSANTO DOMINGO. – Under the direction of the outstanding pedagogue and pioneer in inclusive theater, Wendy Queliz, this unprecedented theatrical proposal narrates everyday stories of life that challenge traditional perceptions, seeking to transform the social narrative about neurodiversity (including conditions such as Down Syndrome and Autism) and motor disabilities, positioning its protagonists from artistic excellence and not from their condition.
The work is articulated through eight symbolic doors that represent access to an egalitarian society, using laughter, drama, and creativity to demonstrate that artistic excellence has no physical or cognitive barriers.
Unlike conventional productions, “Puertas” conceives theater as a fundamental right through the methodology of accessible theater; this technical discipline adapts creative processes to guarantee the professional participation of artists with neurodiverse conditions (such as Autism and Down Syndrome) and motor disabilities, and for the audience, there will be a sign language interpreter to narrate the staging.
Wendy Queliz’s proposal seeks a paradigm shift: theater as a platform for equity and professional rigor, moving away from the concept of charity.
A Rising Talent Cast The production stands out for an inclusive, high-performing cast that reflects the diversity of Dominican society.
The cast includes the participation of: Amelia Brea Bermúdez as Sofía, Sergio Acosta as Judge, Enmanuel Ramírez, as lawyer and Rapper Dj Flow, Carla Morel plays Doña Chu, La Tía Nancy in the role of CEO of the company, Jhon Wayne as vice president director, Julio Gómez in the role of lawyer for the Symbolic Trial, Jorge Luis Fermín as company accountant, Lía Recio as playwright writer and Luis Ángel Benítez playing the father of Jeanna José, also, Robinson Soto acts as defense attorney, Allan Rey in the role of gondolier, Carlos Paradis as janitor, Jeanna Ortiz excelling in gymnastics and family conflict, Lucía Campollo also in gymnastics and Analie Trinidad as fashion designer.
The cast is completed by Anthony Hidalgo in the role of cashier, María Fernanda Aguiar as a client, Alexandre Benjamín and Carlos Alfonso (Fonfi) as defense attorneys, where Diego Algarín, Camila Isabel, Carlos Hernández as Pedro, Clara Decena as Ana, Mara Isabel as receptionist, and the group formed by Alina, Ana Pau and Cathy Nicasio along with Esperanza Benítez also participate, while Henry Frica personifies Marcos, Valerio the prosecuting attorney, and Richard Hernández along with Giacomo Serevalle as clients. The team is strengthened by Laura Soriano as a gym teacher, Kamila Peralta as a client, Anelí Paredes as a caretaker, and Doohan Fabián as a lawyer, all accompanied by a body of interpreters and dancers that reinforce the technical solidity of the work.
A solid team To offer a complete sensory experience, the production meets the highest quality standards under the general direction of Wendy Queliz and the dramaturgy of Sumaya Herrera. The creative team is made up of Angela Bernal in the set design, Carlos Drizzi in the choreography, and Paulo Martínez in the technical design of lights and sound. The original musical composition is the work of Natan Jafet and Luz Jiménez, while the executive production falls on Wendy Queliz, Yilda Yanguela, Esperanza Benítez, Nancy Ledesma, Yvette Bermúdez, Marina Báez, Ingrid Araujo and Covi Productions, with the public relations management of Anelí Paredes and the graphic design of Nelson Almanzar.
