Relationships between social classes and calm love: The Bridgerton closes its fourth installment

«’The Bridgertons’ has never wanted to be an accurate historical drama. It’s not a documentary,» Yerin Ha has asserted about the historical discrepancies of the series, which uses everything from modern music to Afro-descendant, Indian, or Asian actors to represent characters from the British high society of the early 19th century. For his part, for Luke Thompson it is important that any series cares about the social context in which it is broadcast, even if that means taking licenses and taking what it needs from a historical context, but leaving aside what it does not. «‘The Bridgertons’ haven’t invented anything», resolves the actor, who recalls that the fiction draws from Julia Quinn’s romantic novels, which, as Thompson rightly points out, were not written in the 19th century, but in the early 2000s. These licenses are what have allowed, precisely, that his character, Benedict, the second of the eight Bridgerton siblings and the most elusive in terms of love, falls in love with a maid from the service. “Benedict is not the typical protagonist, he is not even at the center of his own life. He has spent the last seasons on the margins of the stories, without taking himself too seriously,” underlines Thompson.

Central Plot of Ha’s Hand

Upcoming Seasons

Regarding the story that ‘The Bridgertons’ will address in the upcoming seasons (Quinn wrote eight books about this family), the actors are unable to choose which brother will be the next protagonist. For Dodd, the most exciting thing would be to finish Francesca’s story, who will predictably fall in love with her husband’s cousin, Michaela Stirling, becoming an openly queer character.
