La Romana. – Residents of the Villa Progreso sector, in Villa Hermosa, held a peaceful protest demanding an urgent solution to the prolonged power outages that, as they reported, last for up to three consecutive days without receiving satisfactory responses from Edeeste.
The community members stated that the electrical situation has become unsustainable because the transformer that supplies the area does not have the necessary capacity to support the energy demand of the large number of existing homes in the sector.
The protesters demanded the installation of a new, higher-capacity transformer, claiming that the current equipment is deteriorated, experiences constant failures, and cannot support the voltage required by the community.

Likewise, they denounced that criminals take advantage of the darkness caused by the power outages to commit robberies and other misdeeds, while, as they stated, the preventive presence of the National Police is practically non-existent in the area.
“We are tired of paying high bills and continuing to suffer endless blackouts. We want a definitive solution,” expressed several of the residents during the protest.
As part of the protest, community members were forced to momentarily interrupt vehicular traffic to draw the attention of the authorities responsible for the electrical service.

Residents reiterated their call to Edeeste and the competent authorities to address this problem as soon as possible, which affects the safety, quality of life, and development of one of the most hardworking communities in the province.
