Second stage of inmate transfer to CCR Las Parras begins

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) began this Thursday the second phase of the transfer process of inmates to the Las Parras Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR), with the admission of 400 inmates from the La Victoria National Penitentiary.

With this mobilization, the second quadrant of the facility was enabled, a module with the capacity to house up to 2,400 people deprived of liberty. The institution reported that, once this stage is concluded, the center will have an estimated occupancy of 4,800 inmates.

The DGSPC explained that the new facilities have ordinary and maximum-security cells, a dining hall, a medical area, spaces designated for family and legal visits, as well as 22 classrooms, a library, an agricultural zone, and a security system designed under international standards.

The entity pointed out that the implementation of this new quadrant is part of the modernization process of the national penitentiary system, with the objective of expanding the capacity of rehabilitation centers and offering better conditions for people deprived of liberty.
