Antonio Taveras’ departure from the PRM opens a new political scenario in the province with the largest electoral weight in the country
Santo Domingo.- The resignation of Senator Antonio Taveras Guzmán from the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) began to shake up the political landscape in the province of Santo Domingo, where sectors inside and outside that organization have begun to promote the name of Adolfo Pérez as a possible senatorial option for the upcoming electoral processes.
According to consulted leaders, the name of the Director of the National Institute of Student Welfare has begun to circulate in political and business conversations due to his career in the official party, his link with President Luis Abinader’s political project, and his profile as a public manager and businessman.
Santo Domingo province is considered one of the most important electoral districts in the country, due to its high concentration of voters and its direct impact on national results. For that reason, Taveras’ departure from the PRM forces the ruling party to recompose its political strategy in that demarcation with time.
Although there is no formal declaration of his aspirations at the moment, people close to Adolfo Pérez understand that the PRM will need a candidacy capable of articulating, connecting with society and having sufficient political support to compete in a complex and decisive province.
