The Breastfeeding Subsidy is a right that provides financial support so that mothers affiliated with the Contributory Regime can guarantee better nutrition during the first year of their children’s lives.
Santo Domingo, D.R.– The Superintendence of Health and Labor Risks (SISALRIL) reported that it has allocated more than 1.175 billion pesos to the payment of the Breastfeeding Subsidy, within the framework of World Breastfeeding Week.
So far in 2026, 58,959 mothers affiliated with the Contributory Regime of the Family Health Insurance (SFS) have benefited from this financial support, as an acquired right through Law 87-01 of the Dominican Social Security System.
The information was provided during the workshop “Importance of Breastfeeding and Prevention of Postpartum Depression,” organized by SISALRIL and aimed at beneficiary mothers, with the purpose of strengthening their knowledge about the benefits of breastfeeding and promoting mental health care after childbirth.
“Exceeding the RD$1.175 billion disbursed this year and benefiting more than 58 thousand mothers reflects our commitment to guaranteeing the right of working women to receive this subsidy, which constitutes fundamental support for the nutrition and care of their children,” stated Ernesto Bussi, Director of Subsidies.

The Breastfeeding Subsidy is a financial assistance received by working mothers to ensure the nutrition of their children during their first year of life, promoting breastfeeding as the foundation for healthy development.
It is granted through 12 monthly payments for each live-born child and is maintained even in the event of the mother’s death. It is the only SFS economic benefit that is paid directly to the affiliate, through a state bank account. Disbursements are made within the first five business days of each month.

The mother must be affiliated, have a minimum of eight (8) contributions in the last 12 months, and have an average insurable salary equal to or less than three national minimum wages (RD$69,669.00)
To request the subsidy, the mother must submit the baby’s birth certificate and the maternity report to her employer. Subsequently, the employer must register the application through the Virtual Office of the Superintendence of Health and Occupational Risks.
In cases where the employer has not registered the application, the mother may manage it directly through the Virtual Office, customer service offices, or SISALRIL’s GOB Points.
