Barahona.- The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, led this Friday in Barahona a new edition of the “Madres que Sostienen” (Mothers Who Support) day, an initiative promoted by the Government to recognize and support Dominican mothers in different provinces of the country.
The activity brought together more than “5,000 mothers” in the Barahona sports center, where a meeting marked by recognition, closeness, and the delivery of social aid took place.
During his speech, Peña highlighted the fundamental role that mothers play in Dominican society and valued the daily effort of women who support their homes and accompany the growth of their children.
“This meeting is just a sample of all the pride that this government feels for Dominican mothers”, expressed the vice president, while stating that “mothers must be celebrated all year round”.
The day is part of the national agenda developed through the Directorate of Social Assistance and Community Nutrition (DASAC), with the aim of providing support and accompaniment to mothers from different communities in the country.
The director of DASAC, Edgar Félix Arbona, pointed out that the program represents a joint effort aimed at recognizing the essential role of Dominican mothers and maintaining closeness with families.
As part of the activity, appliances and household items were delivered, including refrigerators, stoves, fans, washing machines, beds, living room sets, and dining room sets. Food kits, baby baskets, and other essential items were also distributed.
In the act also participated the provincial governor, Oneida Félix; the deputy director of DASAC, Luz Estrella; as well as mayors Hamilton Nin and Míctor Fernández, along with deputies, councilors and other authorities of the province.
