“It wasn’t a pleasant experience, I got nervous and my heart went pa, pa“. With that forceful phrase, Mrs. Hilda Hernández, a resident next to the burned-down warehouse of the computer company, Prodacom, described the moments of terror she experienced this Monday when a fire consumed a large part of the building located in the Buena Vista sector, in Santiago. The fire remained active for more than four hours, forcing the evacuation of residents while units of the Fire Department worked intensely to contain the flames.
“They took me out quickly and only now did they let me back into the house, because they attended to the fire from my roof. From there they could enter faster, but it wasn’t pretty,” she expressed, visibly affected.

The general intendant of the Fire Department, General Alexis Moscat, reported that the fire “completely razed a level of the building“, causing losses not yet quantified. Moscat indicated that firefighters managed to control more than 80% of the fire, preventing the flames from spreading to other homes and businesses in the area. Investigations to determine the causes of the accident continue.
