The UN warns of the possible execution of 10 young people in connection with protests in Iran

Geneva.- Ten young people could soon be executed for having participated in a protest earlier this year in the Iranian city of Isfahan, warned the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran appointed by the UN, which called for the immediate halt of these executions.
Two men involved in that protest were already executed on July 19, and the families of some of those who remain sentenced have been summoned for a final visit to the prisoners, which suggests that new executions could take place imminently, the mission warned this Thursday in a statement.
The twelve men were arrested in connection with the January 8 protests at Alikhani Square in Isfahan, in which four members of the security forces were killed.
According to the expert mission, at least 60 people have been sentenced to death since December of last year in Iran, and 23 men have been executed since March in connection with the anti-government protests of late 2025 and early 2026.

The mission expressed its fear that the Iranian authorities are accelerating the processing of capital punishment cases related to protests and national security issues.
They reiterated their call for Iran to halt all executions and establish a moratorium on the use of the death penalty, with a view to its future abolition for all crimes.
