The talent of the Dominican Republic made its presence felt strongly tonight in the halftime show of the most-watched spectacle on the planet, the Super Bowl, thanks to Bad Bunny. The Dominican presence was marked not only by the music, but also by the culture: from dembow, the clothing used by Lady Gaga designed by the Dominican designer and creator Luar, to the iconic popular phrase ¡Hoy se bebeeee! (Today we drink!) by Anthony Santos that opened the show, in its intro, only this time in the voice of the talented Dominican singer-songwriter Alexander Mercedes. In this intro, which exalted an expression deeply rooted in Dominican culture, the young singer-songwriter Alexander Mercedes, a native of La Romana, was highlighted. He appeared with a guitar in hand, in the middle of a sugarcane field, exclaiming the message: “How great it is to be Latino”, and then proudly saying “Today we drink!” The artist expressed to De Último Minuto the emotion and pride he feels for having been considered for this project, clarifying that he was completely unaware that it was the intro to the Super Bowl. According to what he recounted, everything was handled under strict confidentiality and was recorded approximately a month before, getting the big surprise tonight when he discovered that his participation was part of the halftime show of the most-watched spectacle in the world.
