Santo Domingo.- Dozens of parishioners are gathering this Thursday at the Church of Our Lady of Las Mercedes, located in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo, to celebrate the Day of the Virgin of Las Mercedes, one of the most traditional religious festivities in the Dominican Republic.
From the early hours of the morning, devotees flocked to the temple to participate in religious activities, offer prayers, and thank the Virgin for favors received, as well as to pray for the health and well-being of their families.
The September 24th celebration brings together hundreds of people every year who arrive from different parts of the country to venerate the Virgin of Mercedes, considered the spiritual patroness of the Dominicans.
In the surroundings of the temple, a constant movement of people was observed, who came to fulfill promises and participate in the celebrations prepared for this date.
The religious festivity takes place amidst an atmosphere of faith and devotion, as parishioners keep alive a tradition that is part of the culture and religious identity of the Dominican people.
