Santo Domingo.- The second round of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo elections took place this Thursday to elect the 20 positions that did not reach an absolute majority during the first electoral day held on June 17.
The secretary of the Central Electoral Commission, Fran Valdés, explained that in this stage three vice-rectorates are being contested: Administrative, Research and Postgraduate, and Extension, in addition to several deanships, vice-deanships, school directorships, and positions in university campuses and centers.
Among the positions to be defined are the deanships of the faculties of Arts, Humanities, Economic and Social Sciences, and Legal and Political Sciences, as well as the vice-deanship of Humanities and the vice-deanship of Sciences.
The directorships of the schools of Industrial Design and Fashion, Social Communication, Languages, Biology, and Law will also be chosen, as well as academic sub-directorships at the Barahona, San Francisco de Macorís, and Santiago campuses, in addition to the General Directorship of the Santiago campus and positions at the university centers of Neiba and La Vega.

Valdés indicated that, in accordance with the university electoral regulations, only the two candidates who received the highest number of votes in the first round compete for each of the positions, so a total of 40 aspirants are participating in this decisive day.
The official specified that the winners will be determined by a simple majority, unlike the first round, where it was necessary to reach an absolute majority to be elected.
With this election day, the UASD seeks to complete the team of authorities that will accompany rector Jorge Asjana during the next university management period.
