Santiago.- The National Police reported this Tuesday the arrest of a woman of Haitian nationality, accused of being involved in an incident in which a man lost his life after being accused of allegedly stealing oranges and other items from a home in the municipality of Navarrete, Santiago province.
The detainee was identified as Aviolle Alouidor, known as “Mami”, 42 years old, who was apprehended by members of the Regional Sub-directorate of Investigation (Dicrim) while investigations continue to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The victim was identified as Alejandro Tomás Reyes Veras, also 42 years old, who passed away after being injured during the incident that occurred on the night of last July 24th, in the Los Güega alley, in the Los Mejía sector.

According to preliminary investigations, Reyes Veras allegedly entered the courtyard of the detainee’s home with the supposed intention of taking several oranges and other items. At that moment, the woman allegedly confronted him and struck him with a wooden board while alerting neighbors by shouting “thief!”
The authorities indicated that the situation caused several people to start a pursuit of the man, during which he was also allegedly assaulted. In the midst of the incident, a person, whose identity has not yet been established, fired a shot that caused his death.
The Police reported that they are actively searching for the alleged shooter, while urging this person to turn themselves in through the means they consider appropriate to answer to justice.
The case remains under investigation to precisely establish the responsibility of each of those involved.
