Santo Domingo. – Former Minister of
MIVED, Carlos Bonilla, reported that the sports infrastructure works being carried out for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 have a budget of nearly three billion pesos, and that they currently have a progress of over 75%, with a projection of completion well in advance.
Bonilla offered the statements during a tour and interaction with media in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, where details about the construction pace and the improvements planned for the competitions were presented.
“The resources are guaranteed”
Given concerns about potential delays due to lack of funds, the official assured that the Ministry of Housing’s budget guarantees the successful completion of the schedule.

“The Ministry of Housing’s budget guarantees that all the necessary resources to complete the Games’ works are there in that budget,” he affirmed.
He added that the country will conclude the works months in advance, which, as he explained, makes a difference compared to other international sports venues.
“That doesn’t happen in many countries, that they finish one and two weeks before or even days before,” he said.
Stadium and pool renovation with modern technology
Bonilla detailed that the improvements include the complete modernization of the Olympic Stadium, with new screens and advanced technology on the track. He also explained that the pool area will receive modern cooling and heating equipment, necessary to meet the regulatory temperature standards for official competitions.
In addition, he indicated that pavilions are being adapted for combat sports such as karate and taekwondo, and that tennis will be impacted both in the Parque del Este and within the Olympic Center, in a reform that will allow for better competitive conditions.
Swimming pools already operating
The minister cited the pace of work in the aquatic area as an example, noting that the pools are full and functional.
Why does MIVED run and not Deportes
He explained that the execution corresponds to MIVED because these works were contracted by that institution from the beginning and by law, that is where the funds should be.
“They are works that have been contracted by the MIVED from the beginning, and therefore it is by law that the resources must be there,” he clarified.
