As a measure to ensure the preservation of the works, the Dominican Government established a community volunteer group that will watch over the maintenance and proper use of these sports facilities.Dajabón. – President Luis Abinader delivered this Sunday two renovated sports facilities with a total investment of 43.5 million pesos in this border province, which will benefit children, young people and adults in different disciplines and genders.
These works are part of the construction and reconstruction program of sports facilities (covered multipurpose) carried out by the Dominican Government through the Ministry of Sports throughout the national territory.
The intervention directly impacts the municipalities of Dajabón, Partido and Loma de Cabrera, by providing them with modern facilities for training and competition with community spaces that strengthen the social fabric, by turning these infrastructures into meeting points for athletes, families, neighborhood associations, churches, community leadership and productive sectors.
While pronouncing the central words, the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, explained that, a few days after assuming his duties, he received a video that showed the deterioration of the Dajabón sports center, which he described as “practically abandoned”. He indicated that, by instructions of the president, he moved to the province to verify the situation and then convened the sports and community leadership to establish a local sports development plan.
He detailed that this plan prioritized three actions: the renovation of the low roof, the construction of a volleyball court for girls and young people who did not have an adequate space and the construction of the clubhouse. In that sense, he highlighted the growth of women’s volleyball in the municipality, with more than 300 girls practicing that discipline, and affirmed that with the support of the central government, responses are given to the needs of hundreds of athletes in the region.
The Dajabón sports center received improvements in offices, bathrooms, athletes’ changing rooms, cafeteria, and outdoor areas.
Metal structure repairs were also carried out, along with the placement of aluzinc, metal gutters and downspouts, the construction of a multipurpose hall and general painting.
Also, a FIBA scoreboard was placed in the playing area, two FIBA scoreboard supports, a digital scoreboard, 24-second clocks, seats and electrical installations. The amount invested was 32,336,238.94 pesos.
On the other hand, the Dajabón Clubhouse and the volleyball court received improvements including the construction of the court area, a concrete floor, supply and installation of posts and volleyball net, construction of bleachers, the Clubhouse, general painting and installation of electrical installations. The amount invested in this work was 11,205,197.34 pesos.
