Young woman crushed by a dump truck buried in Santiago; family demands an investigation to clarify the tragedy

Santiago.- Amidst scenes of deep pain and indignation, family members, friends, and neighbors buried the remains of Eslainer Genao Hernández, 25, this Wednesday, who died after being crushed by a heavy motor grader machine in the Don Jaime community while she was commuting to her job at a free trade zone company.

During the funeral services, held at the Cristo Está Vivo cemetery in Ingenio Arriba, the relatives demanded an exhaustive investigation to precisely establish how the accident occurred and determine if there are any criminal or civil liabilities.

The victim resided on 50th Street in the La Piña sector, in the Santiago Oeste municipal district, and leaves behind an eight-year-old son.

Visibly affected, her sister Leslie Colón defined Eslainer as a hardworking, responsible young woman who was devoted to her family.

He/She assured that his/her relatives will exhaust all legal avenues so that the case is clarified and does not go unpunished.

“We want to know what really happened. We will not rest until there are answers and justice is served,” they expressed through tears.

According to preliminary information, the young woman was traveling as a passenger on a motorcycle whose driver, a motorcycle taxi driver who was unharmed, was allegedly traveling in the opposite direction at the time the collision with the heavy machinery occurred, circumstances which are part of the ongoing investigations.

Community member Miguel Antonio Torres remembered the victim as a humble, respectful woman who was appreciated by the entire community. He indicated that the massive attendance at the funeral is evidence of the affection and respect she earned during her life.

More than 24 hours after the event, the relatives maintain that they have still not received an official explanation regarding the circumstances that caused the tragedy, which is why they insisted that the authorities act with transparency, speed, and adherence to the law.
