Santiago.- Amid tears, dismay, and persistent demands for justice, family and friends are holding a wake this Tuesday for the remains of 25-year-old Elanny Genao Hernández, who passed away after being crushed by a heavy motor grader machine in an accident that occurred in the Don Jaime community while she was on her way to her workday at a free trade zone.

The wake is being held at his parents’ residence, located on 50th Street in the La Piña sector, in the Santiago Oeste municipal district, where grief is mixed with uncertainty over the circumstances in which the tragedy occurred.

Her sister, Leslie Colón, stated that the family still does not know how the accident occurred and demanded a thorough investigation to establish responsibilities.

“My sister was a cheerful, hardworking young woman dedicated to her home. She went from her house to work and from work she returned to her house. We don’t know exactly what happened, no one has explained to us how the events occurred. The only thing we ask for is justice,” she expressed through tears.

Colón explained that Elanny was traveling as a passenger on a motorcycle taxi when she was struck by the heavy machinery. He recalled that the young woman left behind an eight-year-old son, who, according to him, had a close bond with his mother.

“That child was left practically an orphan. My sister lived for him. What we want is for this case not to go unpunished and for us to be able to know the truth so that she may rest in peace,” he/she stated.

The victim’s mother, Ana Julia Hernández, also demanded that the authorities clarify the incident and stated that the news surprised her when a woman arrived at her home to inform her about the accident.

“I thought it was just any accident, but when I arrived I was met with the worst reality. My daughter was a quiet, studious, and hardworking young woman. She didn’t go to parties or get into trouble. I demand that it be investigated and that it be known what happened,” she expressed, visibly affected.

The relatives reiterated their call to the competent authorities to deepen the investigations and determine the circumstances in which the accident occurred, which was recorded this Tuesday morning in an area where work related to the construction of the Santiago Monorail is being carried out.

The death of Elanny Genao Hernández has caused deep consternation among residents of Santiago Oeste, who have shown solidarity with the family while they wait for investigations to clarify the case.
