In a message addressed to the Director-General of FAO and the organization’s representatives, Abinader expressed the recognition of the Dominican people and government for “eight decades of service to humanity,” in which the institution has accompanied nations “in the most difficult times, promoting nutrition and the eradication of hunger in all its forms.”

The president highlighted that the Dominican Republic feels fully identified with FAO’s mission, underlining that his Government maintains an “absolute” commitment to the right of every Dominican man and woman to adequate food. Abinader highlighted the progress made by the country in food security, noting that undernourishment decreased from 8.3% in 2019 to 3.6% in 2025, a figure that places the nation below the global average (8.2%) and regional average (5.1% in Latin America and 17.5% in the Caribbean). “These data reflect transformed lives, families with more opportunities, and a safer future for our children,” stated the Head of State, while reaffirming the country’s willingness to continue working closely with FAO. The president concluded his message by stating that food security is “an essential human right and an indispensable condition for the peace and sustainable development of peoples”, reaffirming the Dominican Republic’s commitment to the eradication of hunger and the promotion of a more just and supportive world.
