¡Basta Ya RD! calls for a caravan in Santo Domingo against corruption and the high cost of living

Santo Domingo.– The citizen movement ¡Basta Ya RD! has called for a large caravan in Santo Domingo this Thursday, June 4, with the purpose of expressing its rejection of corruption, the high cost of living, public loans, insecurity, and mining projects in different areas of the country.

During a press conference, the movement’s general coordinator, Misael Guzmán, called on citizens to participate in the demonstration, which will depart at 2:00 p.m. from the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium and conclude at the Santo Domingo Malecón.

“Let no one stay at home thinking that someone else is going to do the work for you. History is built with the citizens, among the citizens, and for the citizens,” expressed Guzmán when inviting the population to join the activity.

Among the main demands raised by the organizers are the resumption of investigations related to alleged irregularities in the National Health Insurance (Senasa), reduction of fuel prices, freezing of basic food basket products, a halt to public debt, and an audit of state funds.

Likewise, they expressed their opposition to mining projects in San Juan and other provinces of the country, while demanding greater immigration controls, improvements in school infrastructure, and supplies for hospital centers.

Guzmán asserted that the activity does not respond to partisan interests and defined it as a citizen demonstration to express dissatisfaction with various government policies.

“This is not an activity of a political party or a political figure. It is an activity of the people,” he maintained.

The leader explained that the caravan will travel through sectors such as Cristo Rey, Villa Juana, Villa Agrícola, Ensanche La Fe, Naco, Piantini, Manganagua, Los Praditos, and Máximo Gómez Avenue before concluding at the Malecón.
