They claim they are marching against the corruption that tarnishes the PRM Government, the high cost of living, and irregular migration
Santo Domingo.- The movement Basta Ya RD held a march-caravan this Thursday to express its rejection of corruption, impunity, and various issues affecting the Dominican population.
During the activity, the general coordinator of the movement, Misael Guzmán Rodríguez, stated that the demonstration arises as a response to the citizens’ discontent with the country’s economic and social situation.
“We Dominicans are fed up with corruption, we are fed up with impunity. The average Dominican is fed up with living in a country where the government is only for the rich,” expressed Guzmán.
The social activist stated that among the movement’s main demands are the clarification of alleged corruption cases, improvements in public services, and measures to address the rising cost of living.

“We want justice for the Senasa case and the Jet Set case. We want better conditions for workers and we are against the rise in fuel prices and the constant increase in the basic food basket,” he stated.

The candidate for Deputy in the 2024 elections also criticized the situation in sectors such as education and health, considering that they face significant challenges.
“The educational system is collapsing, Dominican healthcare is collapsing, and we are fed up with the high level of delinquency and criminality,” he maintained.

During his statements, the organizer indicated that the activity was convened without partisan affiliation and with the purpose of channeling citizen demands.
“This is a caravan called so that no political party or politician would attend. It is a call only for the people and by the people,” he stated.
Likewise, he referred to the migration issue and called on the authorities to reinforce the enforcement of current immigration laws.
“It is time for the government to take the reins and apply the corresponding measures regarding irregular immigration. We are tired of illegal Haitians,” he pointed out.
The coordinator of Basta Ya RD assured that this mobilization will be the first of several activities that the movement will carry out in different locations across the country.
“We are going to send a clear message to the government: enough is enough with all the evils that are affecting the Dominican Republic,” concluded Guzmán.
