La Altagracia.– The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), in coordination with members of the Public Ministry, arrested five people and seized hundreds of grams of various narcotic substances during several operations carried out in the municipality of Verón-Punta Cana, as part of the actions to combat drug micro-trafficking.
The interventions were carried out in sectors such as Hoyo de Friusa, El Cortecito, Villa Progreso, and other areas of the district, where authorities reinforced interdiction and surveillance efforts.
During the operations, 342 grams of alleged cocaine, 622 grams of marijuana, and 57 doses of crack were confiscated, in addition to a scooter-type motorcycle, a cell phone, a scale, and cash, among other evidence.
As a result of these actions, Jasiel Cuevas, Anthony Peguero, Peter Santana, Leandro Alcántara, and Desiré Mejía were arrested and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry of La Altagracia province for the corresponding legal procedures.

The DNCD reported that these interventions are part of the strengthening of targeted operations aimed at identifying, pursuing, and dismantling networks dedicated to the trafficking and distribution of controlled substances.

The authorities highlighted that in recent weeks they have intensified operations against micro-trafficking in different areas of the country, achieving the capture of alleged distributors and the seizure of significant quantities of cocaine, marijuana, crack, ecstasy, and other drugs.
As indicated, these results are in response to the new joint strategies implemented by security agencies and coordinated through the Joint Task Force (FTC), with the objective of more effectively confronting drug trafficking at the local level.
The DNCD reiterated its commitment to continue developing preventive and operational actions to combat micro-trafficking and guarantee greater security in the communities.
