DR extradites Jairo Arias to the US for drug trafficking

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic extradited this Tuesday Jairo Eliezer Arias Caceres, a Dominican citizen accused of international drug trafficking, in compliance with decree 211-25 and as part of its firm commitment to combat drug trafficking and organized crime.

Arias Caceres, 35 years old, was handed over to agents of the U.S. Marshals Service by members of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). The transfer was carried out from the San Isidro Air Base, where he boarded a flight to United States. The defendant faces charges in a Southern District of New York Court for conspiracy to import five kilograms or more of mixtures containing a detectable amount of cocaine, in violation of Title 21 of the U.S. Code.

His arrest occurred last April during an operation on Presidente Jacobo Majluta Avenue, corner of Penetración Street, in Santo Domingo North. Dominican authorities reiterated that this action reflects the country’s will to continue strengthening international cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.
