Flights between DR and Colombia operate normally after 7.4 earthquake

Santo Domingo.— Air operations between the Dominican Republic and Colombia remain normal from Las Américas International Airport (AILA), despite the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck several areas of the South American country this Monday.

The director of Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), Luis López, reported that so far there have been no changes or disruptions to flights destined for Colombia, particularly in operations departing from Santo Domingo to El Dorado International Airport, in Bogotá.

López explained that, despite the magnitude of the earthquake and the damages reported in Colombian territory, the flights scheduled from AILA to the capital of that country continue to operate normally.

According to the airport executive, so far there have been no cancellations, suspensions, or modifications reported that are directly related to the earthquake.

Dominican authorities and airport operators have not received any notifications indicating the need to modify the flight schedule to Bogotá, so passengers are maintaining their itineraries as planned.

Arajet maintains regular flights

The situation was also confirmed by Arajet, a Dominican airline that maintains direct flights to Colombia as part of its network of international destinations.

The airline’s Director of Communications, Manuel Luna, reported that the earthquake has not caused any changes to Arajet’s operations to Colombian territory either.

“Flights remain regular, without any alteration so far,” Luna explained when referring to the operational situation.

Authorities maintain monitoring

The 7.4 magnitude earthquake caused alarm in different regions of Colombia and resulted in infrastructure damage, as well as fatalities, according to reports released throughout the day.

Colombian authorities are keeping emergency and damage assessment mechanisms active to determine the scope of the phenomenon.

Meanwhile, Dominican airport authorities continue to monitor the status of air operations linked to Colombia, especially flights to Bogota, with the goal of informing passengers in a timely manner regarding any eventuality that may affect itineraries.
