Santo Domingo.- At the request of the family of Ivonne Handal, the fatal victim of Jean Andrés Pumarol, the hearing of the coercive measure against the accused of perpetrating the stabbing of 6 people in the Naco Dorado IV condominium last Tuesday the 23rd, was postponed until tomorrow, Monday, at 12:00 p.m.
Pumarol, who, according to his family, suffers from schizophrenia, is represented by lawyer Richard Martinez, who explained “this was a tragedy, it was not a voluntary act. It was the consequence of a diagnosed mental condition. This is an empathetic defense with the victims’ families”, without offering further details about the health and state of his client.

On his side, Miguel Valerio, representative of the Handal family, explained that a proper and flawless clinical assessment is needed.
“La esquizofrenia como tal tiene categorías y niveles, hay que comprobar si primero la tiene. Ese señor no puede estar en la calle”,
resaltó Valerio.
He also clarified that the State has detention centers for this type of inmate and indicated that Pumarol must comply with the coercion measure determined by the Public Ministry in a public center, not a private clinic.
The Public Ministry has ordered a forensic evaluation by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences, who will determine his mental state at the time of the attack.
Pumarol Fernández, 30 years old, is accused of involuntary manslaughter to the detriment of Yolanda Handal Abugabir and attempted murder against Gricelda Ozuna Torres, Francisco Texano, Teresa Fabián de Heredia, Victoria Heredia and Guillermo Ramón Pumarol Castellanos.
