Santo Domingo.- One year after the violent attack attributed to Jean Andrés Pumarol, which shocked an exclusive sector of the National District, Mrs. María Teresa Fabián, one of the surviving victims, raised her voice to demand justice and request imprisonment for the aggressor, after he was acquitted in a previous decision.
The incident occurred when the aggressor broke into a home, taking the life of an elderly woman who was in bed and her pet, and seriously injuring María Teresa Fabián, who was trying to protect herself behind the door.
Physical and psychological sequelae and loss of livelihood
During his statements, Fabián detailed the severe physical injuries he suffered on his head, arms, and hands—including bites and incisions that required sutures all over his body—which prevent him from working in his usual household chores and performing basic daily tasks.
“I am not working now, I cannot; I cannot even hold a comb with this hand. God will provide,” the survivor expressed through tears, who has had to undergo physical therapy and continuous psychological assistance to try to overcome the aftermath.

On an emotional level, Fabián confessed to living in a constant state of fear and anxiety, which forced her to move from her previous residence due to a lack of safety. “I have no peace as long as that man is not in prison. You live scared, with your heart in your mouth. That man cannot be free in the middle of society,” she emphasized.
Court decision
The victim’s statement comes during the hearing of the Second Chamber of the Court of Appeals of the National District, a court that will issue a ruling to determine if Jean Andrés Pumarol is sent to a new trial, after having been previously acquitted.
The community and the victims expect justice to act firmly and set a precedent for events of this magnitude.
