Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) notified this Monday to the party Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) an act of intimidation and warning, after determining that the political organization held a march with proselitizing elements outside the deadlines authorized by law.

The document sent to the party led by former President Leonel Fernández refers to the activity called “March of the People”, held last Sunday, November 30, in sectors of the National District. According to the electoral body, this mobilization was convened from official platforms of the FP, using symbols, colors and slogans associated with the organization, which could constitute early political promotion.

The JCE recalled that, while the Constitution guarantees the right to peaceful protest, this must be exercised in accordance with Electoral Regime Law 20-23, which prohibits propaganda outside the campaign or pre-campaign period. The organization warned that confusion between social protests and partisan activities can affect equity among political organizations. Consequently, the Plenary formally urged the Fuerza del Pueblo to immediately adapt its public activities to the current legal framework and to prevent social demonstrations from being used for political purposes before the official start of the electoral process.
