Santo Domingo.–The Fuerza del Pueblo party (FP) stated that the Dominican education system is undergoing a process of progressive deterioration, despite the fact that the Government has allocated more than RD$ 1.4 trillion to the education sector in the last five years, without these resources being reflected in substantial improvements in the quality of learning or in school infrastructure.

Pimentel maintained that the main educational indicators show stagnation and regression, pointing out the lack of classrooms, school overcrowding, and the use of improvised spaces as persistent problems of the system. He indicated that, although the Ministry of Education had a budget exceeding RD$ 285 billion in 2025, nearly 80% was allocated to current expenses, while key areas such as teacher training, equipment, and infrastructure received minimal percentages. He also warned that investment in capital does not exceed 7% of the executed budget, which has limited the construction of classrooms, especially at the initial level, and has caused the deterioration of existing educational centers. The former minister also expressed concern about the high school dropout rate, which reaches up to 32.09% in 17-year-olds, as well as deficiencies in literacy programs. Finally, Pimentel pointed out that the education budget remains below the 4% of GDP established by law and called for reorienting spending towards strategic areas that directly impact the quality of education.
