Santo Domingo.- The Second Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice will hear this Wednesday the appeal filed by prosecutor Aurelio Valdez Alcántara, who seeks to obtain his freedom after being sent to pretrial detention for allegedly receiving a 10,000 dollar bribe linked to the corruption case at the National Health Insurance.
The hearing is scheduled for 9:00 in the morning and will be heard by a court presided over by Magistrate Francisco Jerez Mena, along with judges María Garabito, Nancy Salcedo, Yorlin Vásquez Castro, and Fran Soto.
The prosecutor’s defense appealed the decision of Judge Isis Muñiz, who imposed three months of pretrial detention as a coercive measure.
Valdez Alcántara, assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption, is serving the precautionary measure at the Najayo Men’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office file, the prosecutor allegedly received cash from Roberto Canaán, identified as one of the key figures in the investigation into alleged acts of corruption at the National Health Insurance (Senasa).

Due to the gravity of the alleged facts and the defendant’s status as a public official, the Public Prosecutor’s Office had initially requested one year of pretrial detention.
