Santo Domingo.– The Public Ministry requested this Wednesday that the Second Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice reject the appeal filed by prosecutor Aurelio Valdez Alcántara and maintain the preventive detention measure imposed on him for alleged acts of corruption linked to the Senasa case.
During the hearing, the Director General of Prosecution, Wilson Camacho, maintained that the grounds presented by the prosecuting body to justify the precautionary measure are the same as those evaluated by the special investigating judge Isis Muñiz at the time of imposing pretrial detention.
In that sense, the Public Prosecutor’s Office asked the court to reject the appeal submitted by the defendant’s defense and to fully confirm the resolution that ordered three months of pretrial detention.
“We request the court to reject the appeal filed by the defendant, through his defense, against the resolution that imposes preventive detention as a coercive measure,” Camacho stated during his intervention.
The prosecuting body insisted that the decision adopted in the first instance must be maintained, considering that the reasons that justified the imposition of the precautionary measure persist.
The hearing is taking place in the Second Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, which is hearing the appeal filed by Valdez Alcántara, accused of allegedly receiving a 10,000 dollar bribe from a person under investigation in the National Health Insurance (Senasa) corruption case.
