Santo Domingo. – The effects of Hurricane Erin in the Dominican Republic keep the residents of vulnerable sectors of the National District, such as Los Guandules and Gualey, in concern, as most admit not feeling prepared for possible floods.
During a tour of the area, the residents shared their impressions of the preparation and the conditions of their neighborhoods.

“There are still too many shacks here. They fixed the top part, but the bottom part, where we marginalized people live, they left us like this,” reported a neighbor, reflecting the frustration over the lack of complete solutions.
Another resident directly expressed the vulnerability of the sector: “The water would have to be returned; there are no conditions here to withstand the rain.”

Another comment: “Everything is better than before,” referring to the improvement due to the drainage work done in the area.
The community lives in a state of alert with uncertainty, and few trust that the current measures will be sufficient and fear that they will not be adequate to protect themselves from the heavy rains of Hurricane Erin.
