Puerto Plata.- A teacher lost her life and at least four people were injured in several traffic accidents that occurred this Sunday in different parts of the Puerto Plata province, events that once again highlight the concern over the high incidence of road accidents in the area.
The fatal victim was identified as Elianna Ulloa Muñoz, an English teacher and resident of the Bello Costero sector. According to preliminary reports, the teacher suffered a serious accident while traveling on a motorcycle along the Malecón avenue in Puerto Plata.
The incident occurred in the area known as the “Quarter Mile,” where the motorcycle she was riding was struck by a vehicle. Following the crash, Ulloa Muñoz was rushed to the Ricardo Limardo Provincial Hospital, where she was admitted with severe traumatic brain injury. Despite medical efforts, she passed away due to the injuries sustained.

In another incident recorded on Sunday afternoon on the Puerto Plata-Navarrete highway, two men were seriously injured following a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck in the municipality of Altamira.

The affected individuals, whose identities were not immediately obtained, received assistance from units of the 9-1-1 National Emergency and Security Response System, who transported them to various health centers after they remained lying on the pavement near the Los Arroyos sector, at the entrance to García.
Likewise, two other men were injured in an accident that occurred on the La Muñeca-Llanos de Pérez stretch, in the municipality of Imbert, where two trucks collided at the Guananico intersection.
According to communicator Cosme Ulloa, there were no fatalities in this latest incident. However, he highlighted the concern of residents and drivers regarding the frequency of accidents at that intersection, which is considered high-risk.

Given this situation, community members hope that the competent authorities will evaluate the installation of a traffic light system or other road safety measures that contribute to reducing the occurrence of accidents and protecting the lives of those who travel through the area.
