The cartoon: We may have gotten off the hunger map, but no one is taking us away from eating well!

This Wednesday, October 28th cartoon adds a touch of humor to positive news for the Dominican Republic: the recognition by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for the country’s removal from its Hunger Map.
The director-general of the organization, Qu Dongyu, highlighted that the nation managed to reduce the prevalence of undernourishment to less than 2.5% during the 2023-2025 period, a significant advancement in terms of food security.
But our cartoon takes the news into the realm of Dominican humor. Because if there is one thing that characterizes Quisqueyans, it is their passion for good food: from a mangú with the “three hits” to a well-served sancocho.
“Nobody is taking us off the map of good eating!”, exclaims our character while enjoying an authentic Creole banquet.
Beyond the humor, international recognition represents a significant achievement, although challenges remain to ensure that all families have access to sufficient, healthy, and quality food.
Because it is one thing to get off the hunger map and quite another to stop enjoying the flavors that identify us.
