“Emily in Paris” actor Pierre Deny dies from ALS

French actor Pierre Deny died at the age of 69 after battling aggressive amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disease that rapidly deteriorated his health in recent months. The information was confirmed by relatives of the interpreter through a statement released to international media. The artist’s death occurred on May 25th, according to his relatives, who described the ailment as a fulminant form of Charcot’s disease. ALS progressively affects the neurons responsible for muscle movement and currently has no definitive cure.

In recent years, Deny gained worldwide recognition thanks to his participation in the series Emily in Paris, where he played Louis de Léon, a prominent executive at the luxury firm JVMA, within the business universe presented in the production starring Lily Collins. In addition, he was the father of Nicolas de Léon, in the series who had a romantic relationship with Mindy Chen played by (Ashley Park).

Although his appearance in the successful Netflix series boosted his international projection, Pierre Deny had already accumulated an extensive career in French cinema, television, and theater. Since the early 1980s, he participated in multiple dramatic productions and in around 30 theatrical productions, consolidating himself as a recognized figure within French acting. One of his most popular characters in France was Doctor Renaud Dumaze in Demain nous appartient, a television project in which he remained for several years and where he appeared in hundreds of episodes. His career also included participations in series such as “Julie Lescaut”, “Une femme d’honneur” and “Camping Paradis”. Upon learning of his death, colleagues and friends of the actor expressed messages of sadness and recognition on social media. Actress Luce Mouchel, who shared scenes with Deny for years, highlighted the closeness they maintained off-camera and lamented the loss of a colleague whom she described as a generous man deeply passionate about acting.
