Selma Blair detained after allegedly trying to open plane door midflight

American actress Selma Blair, known for her roles in Legally Blonde, Cruel Intentions and Hellboy, was detained after an incident aboard a Delta Air Lines flight in which she allegedly attempted to open an aircraft door midflight and assaulted two flight attendants.

The incident occurred Sunday, October 11, as the 54-year-old actress traveled from Los Angeles to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. According to entertainment outlet TMZ, Blair allegedly tried to open a door while the plane was airborne, prompting the intervention of flight attendants. During the confrontation, she reportedly struck one crew member and bit another. Both were injured, and one was taken to a hospital.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed to The Associated Press that police responded at approximately 11 p.m. after the aircraft reached its gate at JFK. Blair was taken into police custody and transported to a medical facility for evaluation. The FBI opened an investigation into the incident.

A representative for Blair told People magazine that the actress had experienced a medical emergency that led to the reported behavior. “Selma experienced a medical emergency that caused the reported behavior. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently stable,” the representative said. No further details about the emergency have been made public.

Delta confirmed that authorities responded after the plane arrived in New York and said the flight landed ahead of schedule. The airline reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward violent or illegal behavior. The FBI investigation remains ongoing as authorities determine what happened and whether criminal charges will be filed.

The incident recalls a 2016 episode in which Blair was removed from a flight from Cancún to Los Angeles on a stretcher after experiencing a medical episode. She later said she had mixed alcohol with medication and regretted her behavior. Blair, who publicly disclosed her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2018, has not had that condition explicitly linked by her representatives to the latest incident.
