Santo Domingo. – Located two hours and seventeen minutes from the capital, in the heart of the Dominican Republic’s mountains, there is a place that seems taken from a doll’s tale. It is “Serie 50”, a picturesque space in Jarabacoa that combines art, gastronomy, and color in every corner. The first impression upon arrival is inevitably surprising, two enormous pig sculptures welcome visitors at the entrance, surrounded by flowers, vintage details and even a decorated bicycle that catches the eye from afar. Upon crossing its doors, the experience becomes a visual journey, iconic phrases on the walls, retro furniture, corridors adorned with colorful murals and a two-story house whose paintings invite you to stop and capture photographs that look like living postcards. The pink color, predominant throughout the space, is no coincidence. According to its creator, the entrepreneur, Mikey Disla, it was chosen to capture the attention of children and give identity to a concept that is unlike any other.

“Series 50” was born in 2020, amidst the challenges left by the pandemic and in the search for new opportunities. Mikey, a career diplomat, faced economic difficulties that led him to rethink his future. It was then that cooking appeared as his saving grace.

“I had to learn to cook. As a result of that, I left the government and decided to create something that would go hand in hand with me”

His vision was enhanced after a trip to Colombia, where he discovered the famous restaurant Andrés Carne de Res, which became his great inspiration.

“From there I got the idea that you can eat well, surrounded by art and joy. Here there is nothing copied: everything you see is original, but Andrés Carne de Res showed me that someday I could dream of something similar”, says Disla.

The project took shape with a special tribute: the pig. Sculptor Fausto Contreras brought to life the giant pieces that are now an emblem of the place, a tribute to one of the most present foods on the Dominican table. “Dominicans eat pork three times a week: in salami, chops, ham… What we did was pay tribute to it with art,” explains the founder.

Gastronomy with its own stamp

In addition to its charming aesthetic, Serie 50 stands out for its gastronomic proposal. Its menu offers dishes with original names that revolve around Dominican cuisine, always with a creative touch.

Among the most popular are the Serie 50 dish (rice, beans and meat), chicharrón empanadas, shrimp mofongo, chicharrón chofán, chicharrón ceviche and the Loma Miranda specialty, all designed to highlight the Creole flavor with a modern touch. The atmosphere isn’t limited to the food. The restaurant has also become a cultural space: live music can be heard there, local talent is supported, and a stage is offered where the traditional and the contemporary mix.

A Destination for Everyone

Located in La Confluencia, surrounded by mountains, a cool climate, and landscapes that captivate, “Serie 50” has established itself as a tourist and gastronomic destination. It’s more than a restaurant: it’s a tribute to Dominican creativity, a corner where every detail tells a story and where Mikey’s motto is fulfilled to the letter:

“There is no failure here”
