Ecuador’s National Agency for Regulation, Control and Health Surveillance (Arcsa) temporarily closed an oriental food establishment in Durán, Guayas, after inspectors found several serious sanitary violations during an inspection.
Among the most serious findings were rodent feces in different areas of the restaurant and on food products. According to Arcsa’s report, droppings were found on vegetables, soy sauce, shelves and containers used to prepare or store food.
Inspectors also identified problems with food storage. Arcsa reported that proteins and other products were stored in a freezer while exposed to liquids, a condition that could contribute to cross-contamination.
Cockroaches, lizards and weevils
Inspectors also found insects and other animals inside refrigeration equipment, including cockroaches, lizards and weevils.
The conditions represented violations related to hygiene, food handling and the storage of products intended for human consumption.

In response, Arcsa ordered the temporary closure of the establishment. The restaurant will be allowed to reopen once it complies with the requirements imposed by health authorities.
The agency said the measures include cleaning and disinfection procedures, as well as actions to control and prevent pest infestations. Arcsa also shared images of the operation on social media and reminded residents that suspected sanitary violations can be reported through the Arcsa Móvil application.
