California scientist sentenced to probation after poisoning coworker’s water

A California scientist was accused of poisoning a coworker’s drinking water, leaving her with serious health problems and emotional distress. A hidden camera reportedly captured David Xu contaminating Rong Yuan’s water bottle, an incident that preceded more than two years of unexplained illnesses.

Yuan experienced severe vomiting, hair loss and other health problems before discovering that her water contained cadmium at levels reportedly 3.5 million times higher than the federal limit. The exposure left her facing ongoing health concerns.

Xu was initially charged with attempted murder but received two years of probation after pleading guilty to poisoning. Despite the seriousness of the allegations and the lasting effects reported by Yuan, the case took another turn when a judge granted Xu’s request to expunge his felony conviction.

The decision has left Yuan questioning how Xu could receive a second chance while she continues to deal with the consequences of the poisoning. The case has drawn attention to the lasting impact of toxic exposure and the legal consequences faced by those responsible.
