Through an official statement, the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation indicated that the information disseminated does not correspond to the official position of the Honduran State and reiterated that foreign policy is developed through established institutional channels.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that all diplomatic actions are carried out in accordance with official procedures and current international commitments.

The institution emphasized that the country’s foreign policy is conducted exclusively through the competent State bodies and in adherence to the diplomatic agreements assumed by Honduras.

In parallel, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Honduras issued a statement in which it reiterated the validity of the “one China” principle.

The diplomatic representation recalled that there is only one Chinese State and maintained that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory.

The embassy highlighted that China currently maintains diplomatic relations with 183 countries, including Honduras, ties that were formally established in March 2023.

Honduras severed diplomatic relations with Taiwan on March 26, 2023, ending more than eight decades of official ties between both governments.

That same day, Tegucigalpa established diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, a decision that generated broad political and economic debate in the country.
