Huge wave hits journalist during live broadcast in Spain’s Basque Country

A live television broadcast from Ondarroa, on Spain’s Basque coast, was interrupted when a huge wave struck journalist Sergio Ovejero as he reported on worsening sea conditions.
The incident occurred during ETB2’s program Euskadi Quédate, while Ovejero was explaining the increasing wave activity and safety recommendations for people near the seafront.
As the reporter delivered his report, a powerful swell crashed against the breakwater and surged over the sea wall, hitting Ovejero and the technical crew accompanying him.
The force of the water caused the live signal to cut out abruptly. For a few moments, viewers could see only the ground covered in sea foam.
The incident prompted concern in the studio. The presenter immediately reacted, saying: “Let’s hope our colleague Sergio and Raquel are okay. We’ll update you shortly.”
The incident ultimately ended in a fright, with no further serious consequences reported in the account. The live footage captured the strength of the storm affecting the Basque coastline.
