New Delhi.- Heavy monsoon rains and natural disasters caused by the storm ravaging different parts of India have left at least 115 dead, dozens injured, and thousands displaced in recent days, according to official information.
Assam, one of the most affected states in the northwest of the country, has already recorded at least 89 deaths since the beginning of the storm and more than 12,000 evacuees, the State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) indicated this Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours, ten districts and more than 365 localities have been flooded, directly affecting 122,000 people and destroying more than 15,300 hectares of crops, added the agency, which assured that the authorities have already deployed temporary shelters.
In the south of the subcontinent, in the state of Kerala, at least 26 people have died and another 11 have been injured due to emergencies linked to the rains since the start of the monsoon, confirmed the head of government, V. D. Satheesan, this Wednesday.

“Due to rain-related disasters, 462 relief camps are currently operating across the state, providing shelter to 27,048 people (…) 26 deaths have been recorded in the state due to the rains. Eleven people were injured and four are missing,” reported Satheesan.
The southern state is facing one of the most critical scenarios due to the heavy floods and landslides that have paralyzed the region since July, where there are already more than 27,000 people evacuated from their homes, the regional government noted.
In the north of the country, the territory of Jammu and Kashmir has recorded flash floods and sudden inundations, and in the east, in the state of Jharkhand, at least 12 people have died from lightning strikes, according to authorities.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that intense rainfall will continue to affect much of the national territory over the coming days and has issued new alerts for extremely heavy rainfall in northeastern states and heavy rainfall in southern states.
