Inmates took at least 46 hostages amid disturbances in three prisons in Guatemala this Saturday, local authorities report, noting that the riots were organized by the Barrio 18 gang.
The hostages are mostly guards, but there is also a psychologist. There have been no deaths or injuries among those captured yet, Interior Minister Marco Antonio Villeda specified at a press conference, indicating that he will not enter into negotiations with “terrorists” and that he plans to regain control of the penitentiary centers.
